A Precautionary Welcome
Hello all,
Thank for you paying a visit to my sleeper cell newsletter. For now, you probably won’t be hearing from me much here. Maybe I’ll blast out an occasional list here and there, but for now, this is more of a safeguard than anything else.
You see, I’ve become a bit addicted to writing album reviews. I live it, I breathe it, I spend my waking hours dreaming up scores for albums that don’t even exist, imagining all the savory zingers and overwrought analogies that could possibly be contained within. I’m only somewhat joking; writing about music has become a very important part of my life, and sadly I worry that all the main outlets for my writing are built upon toothpicks that could collapse at any moment. Twitter is self-imploding, and the entire media complex is as depressingly fragile as it’s ever been. But there’s one thing that will never truly die no matter what the world throws at it: E-mails. So, before any of those possible doomsday scenarios happen, I wanted to throw this idea out there to anyone who’s been following my writing over the years so we can stay in touch should the whole journalism thing go to shit. In the early hours of this morning, I’ve brewed up an idea for a bi-weekly newsletter format whereby a couple times a month, I drop you an album review, ideally something you haven’t heard of, or maybe something you have heard of and NEED a highly questionable opinion on, and in between I’ll send out some quarterly best-of lists and that kind of fun stuff. You hopefully get some easily digestible music criticism, I get some peace of mind that I’m doing something with my life.
Anyways—feel free to join me on this potential/eventual ride. To everyone who’s supported my writing over the years, thank you for making me feel like just a little bit less of a crazy person. You mean everything to me <3
Love,
Sammo
